To the install... I was to get fascia boards installed. This would normally be done before the paper/drip edge/shingles. But they didn't until I said something. When I called with concerns over this and with them not replacing the fly rafters as agreed on, they would not call me back (three different occasions). I didn't get to talk to someone who knew what was going on until I kicked the roofers off of the roof. Then, 20 minutes later, we had a productive conversation.
Update: Gary Payne met me today to fix the messed up shingles, and was very professional about the job. At the end of the job, my house look infinitely better and the roof looks very good. It took more effort that it should have but I'm content with the outcome of the job.
From the first meeting with Gary to the final "walk around" review, this was a great roofer to work with. The crew was timely each morning and kept all the site area as clean as could be expected for the massive amount of work they had to do. They stand by their work, which is great given the horror stories about other roofers. The one time that I noticed a leak spot on the ceiling (about a year after the roof install), Gary was on site within 24hrs to seal and adjust some shingles that were the issue. I recommend Vinton Roofing frequently to folks because of the quality of the work and their great customer service. :)
Quality of work... fascia boards had a single nail in 75% of the rafters. I went back and installed a screw in all rafters and two screws where no nails were located. One of the fascia boards was not true and they put no effort into getting it snug to the top of the rafter. As a result, it dipped below the drip edge. The subcontracter doing the gutters helped me to pull it off and then reattach it properly. Next I noticed that two ridge shingles weren't in line with the rest (even though the rest weren't in a straight line anyway). One of them didn't get nailed at all. The other had one good nail and the other basically missed the shingle (nail was right on the edge). I used one of the 30 nails that I found laying on the roof and on the ground to attach them back into place but there is too much of a gap for them to be able to be left that way. I'll have to get them to fix it before I sign off on the job.
First appointment for quote, they were exactly on time, conducted themselves professionally, and provided me a fair quote. Then, 2 months later I was still waiting on my new roof. I know that they were busy and there was quite a bit of rain but for a job that was to be completed 3-4 weeks later and not to get a call was not professional.
These guys are amazing! They are fast, very clean and the roof work looks amazing! They get the job done! They show up early and work hard! They became our family for a few days! If you want an affordable, great quality roof with trust worthy men call Vinton Roofing!
I would not recommend Vinton Roofing if you have a mansard style roof. Simply put, they cannot do it. I am now 15 mos post new roof, and I have called with having lost my 12th shingle. Gary states it's because of the heat index?? I beg to differ, these shingles falling off either do not have any nail holes, or they are so close to the edge of the shingle, they're barely visible. Of course, when I call I'm told they'll be out that day or tomorrow, nope it's usually 3 weeks later after I make another phone call to the office. I've had numerous folks ask me who installed the roof, as there are nailed down shingles covered by black caulk on the front of the house, not so sure that's professional??
We chose Vinton Roofing for our new roof after taking bids from two other contractors. Of the three bids, Vinton Roofing was substantially less expensive, offered a better package of name brand materials and had a better attitude. Jason Webb consistently impressed us with his knowledge and professionalism.
At the end of the day, I'd not recommend Vinton Roofing to anyone. A trusted contractor referred me to them and apparently they are generally good. But in my experience, the only thing that went right was the sales pitch.
We were working on a deadline and made unreasonable demands for starting on our roof but Jason again exceeded what was expected by having the crew here 3 days early and completing our roof in ONE DAY! This level of value and professionalism is rarely experienced by my family.
We highly recommend Vinton Roofing! Jason took a project we were dreading and made it wonderful! The roof is perfect, the cleanup and impact on the property by the crew was perfect. So far I have been unable to find so much as a roofing nail anywhere. Do yourself a favor and give them a chance!
